  • Coffee will help you live longer, new study suggests

    Well, sort of. β˜•οΈ

    29 Aug 2017

If you're one of those 'don't talk to me until I've had my coffee' kinda people, then we've got good news for you. A new major study suggests that coffee may decrease your chances of an early death.

    Getty Images

After tracking almost *twenty thousand* people for ten years, the Hospital de Navarra in Spain concluded that those who drank coffee regularly the had lowest death rates - almost two thirds lower than the non coffee drinkers in the researched group.

Of course this is not the first time coffee has been pointed out as beneficial for your health - as it has been previously linked to lower heart disease, warding off diabetes and even boosting metabolism. But this time around researchers may have found the magic number of cups at which the benefits really kick in:

β€œI would advise drink plenty of coffee, it could be good for your heart. I think it's a good idea to have about four cups a day. I think it's the polyphenols (a form of antioxidant), they have an anti-inflammatory effect” - Lead author of the study, Dr Adela Navarro, comments.

But before you start chuging espressos like they're shots, know that the British Heart Foundation advised coffee drinkers to take it easy on the caffeine and rather just make better lifestyle choices:

β€œThe best way to minimise your risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death is to concentrate on an overall healthy lifestyle - eat a balanced diet, stay active and don’t smoke - rather than lining up the lattes". We promise we'll try.
