  • The big Apple Event: 8 things we're all talking about today

Seriously though, how much cash do we need?

    13 Sep 2017

Apple launched its new products with MASSIVE fanfare on Tuesday night – and yes, it blew everyone's minds. And wallets. Specifically, our wallets.

With new iPhones on the horizon, the introduction of animojis (do not confuse these with Animaniacs, very different), new additions to the Apple Watch, and their priciest phone yet, there was a LOT to discuss, so here are the major points from the Apple event.

Apple is launching THREE new iPhones

The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X will be available to pre-order from September 15, and to buy from September 22. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are upgrades on the iPhone 7 but they do offer Wireless charging (welcome to the future, people), as well as an improved camera and processor. You'll pay $699 for the 8 and $799 for the iPhone 8 Plus. The X however promises something completely new. Expect a nearly full-screen display and a front-facing camera with Face ID (read below). It'll cost you though - $1000 to be exact. The worst thing? It's rumoured that the phones will cost the same in pounds as they do in dollars.

    Face ID

Now this is seriously techy. Apple introduced it's fingerprint ID technology to unlock phones way back when iPhone 5s was all the rage but now, your phone could unlock just by looking into the screen. Yes, the iPhone X has the ability to recognise the identity of its owners. A little creepy? Totally but we're down.

A moment of silence for the iPhone 9 please

It's never going to happen now, is it...

Americans don't pronounce Deidre the way us Brits do

Apple employee Deidre received a lot more attention than she was probably ready for when she was asked to demonstrate the Apple watches' new call making function. When called up on stage, her name was pronounced "Dee-dra" and yep, the Coronation Street memes came in thick and fast on Twitter...

Yes, Apple Watch 3 is going to be big

The latest model will offer wearers the chance to make calls and play music on Apple Music without having to connect to their phone. The watchOS 4 upgrade will also offer a redesigned workout app, better heart rate monitoring and be able to tell you if your heart rate is rising when you're not working out.

And, don't worry - they've not forgotten about Apple TV

Of course not. Apple TV will now be able to support 4K (a new resolution standard) video but it does mean you have to have a 4K television. Expect to stream the likes of Netflix in hi-resolution and if you're into sport, the Apple 4K will also feature a tab dedicated specifically to live and upcoming games so you don't miss a second.

    Apple made dreams come true

Yes, DIY Artist Emma Blackery got the shock of her life when she saw her album pop up during Apple's presentation. Will her album sales increase meteorically? Time will tell.

    Animojis

Probably the most exciting announcement, right?! Anomojis are animated versions of emojis (get it?). Using the Face ID software, the iPhone will create custom 3D versions of emojis based on your own facial expressions. You'll be able to edit them in fullscreen, and they’ll all be animated in real-time before you send them as a message. They'll be avaliable on the iPhone X and if you ask us, that's reason enough to start saving the pennies.

    Snaps for Angela's coat

Yes, Apple's retail boss Angela Ahrendts slayed in a $2900 millennial pink Burberry trench coat on stage and we weren't jealous at all.
